SACRAMENTO, CA – Senator Josh Becker (D-Menlo Park) has been appointed to serve on the California Broadband Council (CBC), a critical body dedicated to expanding high-speed internet access and closing the digital divide across the state.
Established by SB 1462 in 2010, the Council works to identify state resources, foster public-private partnerships, and develop strategic policies aimed at ensuring all Californians—regardless of location or socioeconomic status—can benefit from world-class broadband service.
"It’s an honor to join the California Broadband Council," said Senator Becker. "High-speed internet access is not a luxury—it’s a necessity for education, job opportunities, and participation in modern life. I’m eager to help drive innovative solutions that expand broadband deployment and adoption in both rural and underserved urban communities."
As a recognized leader on technology and equity issues, Senator Becker has been a consistent advocate for policies that promote digital inclusion. His legislative work has included championing efforts to improve internet access in schools, support telehealth expansion, and promote digital literacy programs.
The 12-member Council is run by the California Department of Technology’s Office of Broadband and Digital Literacy, which coordinates efforts with community partners and stakeholders to create a more digitally connected California.
