Virtual Town Hall: Teacher Housing - March 20

Dear Friends,

Finding an affordable home in the Bay Area is a challenge for most people, but for our educators, it is especially difficult to live in the community in which they teach. In my Senate district, some teachers and staff commute as far as an-hour-and-a-half each way every day.

These long commutes take educators far from their homes and detract from time in the classroom. This results in teachers feeling disengaged from the communities in which they work.

We’re trying to change that, and progress is being made! On March 20th, at 4:30 p.m. I’ll host a virtual town hall meeting with the people who are actually getting teacher workforce housing built in our area. Learn what K-12 and community college districts are doing to make teacher workforce housing a reality.

Join me for a conversation with:

  • Supervisor Joe Simitian
Led stakeholders in getting teacher housing approved in Santa Clara County

  • Jefferson High School District Trustee Kalimah Salahuddin
Championed the building of her district’s teacher workforce housing project

  • SMCCCD Director of Community and Government Relations David McLain
The district has 130 units of employee housing on San Mateo County Community College District property

  • Ravenswood School District Superintendent Gina Sudaria
Established a suite of housing solutions in the Ravenswood School District

Please RSVP below and share your questions in advance with our panelists.
