(CapRadio) -- Two tiny homes stood on the lawn of the state Capitol this week. They look similar to camping trailers; they’re even on wheels. These models are already in use in some California cities like Santa Barbara. 

Lara Ohanesian is a project manager for Boss Cubez, the company that made these homes. She gave tours of a furnished room. 

“It has a bed, a twin-sized bed, a desk with a chair, some shelving and some storage for a resident, and the most important — it has a locking door,” she said. 

(Pleasanton Weekly) -- The design solution for California’s homeless crisis may come in the form of steel Lego-like modular units with electricity, showers and key-pad locks that are assembled by forklift into temporary communities on public land.

That is the vision of state Sen. Josh Becker, D-Menlo Park, who promoted his Senate Bill 1395 on Thursday morning in Sacramento. He was joined by co-authors Assemblymember Gregg Hart, D-Santa Barbara, and state Sen. Catherine Blakespear, D-Encinitas, who both called for local governments to allow these places to be sited on public land.

(InMenlo) -- Yesterday (8/8/2024), State Senator Josh Becker (D-Menlo Park) joined Senators Catherine Blakespear and Anna Caballero, Assembly member Gregg Hart, other legislators, San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan, and interim housing advocates to tour the latest in interim housing models. The tour was in support of passing the Interim Housing Bill, SB 1395 (Becker). This bill will make it easier for local governments to build dignified, safe interim housing for unhoused individuals and families and set them on a path towards permanent housing.

On Thursday morning, they stood in front of examples of tiny homes on the west steps of the state Capitol building in Sacramento. 

State Senator Josh Becker's legislation, Senate Bill 1395, would further build on California's Shelter Crisis Act and is currently awaiting a vote in the California Assembly.

Now employed and housed, Wiley credited her success to interim housing during a news conference at the California State Capitol on Thursday.
